How to Image and Expand Your SD Card

Win32 Disk Imager

aka Win32 Image Writer

This is a Windows program for saving and restoring images from removable drives (USB drives, SD Memory cards, etc). It can be used to write boot images to a SD Flash device or USB flash device, making it bootable. Download from here

You might have already used this program to "restore" an image downloaded from the raspberry pi website.

Now you need to use it but this time select "read"

save your image to your pc

now replace your smaller SD Card with your larger SD Card

Select "Write" this time ,wait until complete

place newly imaged SD Card into your Raspberry pi

boot your raspberry Pi

run "sudo raspi-config"

select expand root fs

after complete

run "Sudo reboot"

(I found i had to reboot twice sometimes ????)

Your Raspberry pi is now running with a larger card but all your settings and software are still there and configured :-)
